Confidant is a one-time purchase — the software is yours forever. Remember paying for software once and actually owning it? That's still how this works. The difference is we never stop improving it — and the $179/year (first year included) is what keeps you current on everything we ship.
When you buy Confidant, it's yours. Not licensed to you month-to-month. Not contingent on a subscription staying active. The software installs on your computer and works there — our servers are never involved, which means there's nothing for us to turn off. Most software companies have to promise their product keeps working if you cancel. We don't have to promise it because it's architecturally impossible for us to stop it.
We're constantly improving Confidant — better AI models, new note formats, app refinements, new features. We don't hold updates back to justify a subscription cycle. When something's ready, we ship it. The update plan is what keeps you current on everything that comes after your purchase.
If you don't add the update plan, Confidant works exactly as it did when you bought it. Your notes, recordings, transcripts, and exports stay exactly where they are — on your computer. You'll just miss what we ship after your copy. Skip it and nothing changes about your day-to-day.
Confidant was built by a therapist and a developer, without outside investors. We chose a one-time model because it's the right structure for a tool that handles something as sensitive as therapy notes — your access to your own data should never be contingent on a billing relationship with us. That said, building and improving Confidant is real, ongoing work. New AI models need integration. macOS and Windows updates need compatibility. User feedback shapes the roadmap. The update plan is how we fund that without a monthly bill and without locking anyone in. If you find Confidant valuable, the update plan is how you keep it getting better. We think that's a fair trade.
Starting year two. Year one is included with your purchase.
Cancel anytime. Confidant keeps working regardless.
